Job Opening: Information Systems Specialist II

The Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) seeks professional to install, maintain, manage, and provide technical support for MRCOG and RMRTD and supported agencies’ computer hardware, software, and peripherals. Provide support to all locations within the region.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions include but are not limited to: Manage and maintain hardware and software for the Rail Runner Express at all stations as well as at MRCOG. Manage computer network systems, including all computers, network equipment, and peripherals; Implement and manage Office 365, computer, and communications security systems; Setup and perform system backups and restores; Diagnose and resolve users’ computer-related hardware and software problems; Install and maintain software including both locally installed and over the network; Manage LAN/WAN equipment, firewalls, and connection to Internet; perform periodic hardware/software inventories. Troubleshoot problems with printers, scanners, and plotters. Install various hardware including managed and non-managed switches and firewalls.

Troubleshoot network problems at MRCOG and satellite offices as well as Rail Runner stations. Travel required sometimes but not more than 55 miles one way usually. Meet with contractors at rail stations to direct and advise for problems/upgrades.


Qualifications include associate degree in computer science or related field plus two (2) years related experience. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)/Cisco certification may substitute for degree. Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of experience. Experience must include working with local area networked equipment and software and experience with Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) based systems including MS Active Directory management. Experience with MS Windows-based (10/11) PCs required. Experience with Office 365 required.
