Interested in Purchasing or Leasing a Couple of Acres for Small Family Farm

Reference #: 181

County: Bernalillo

Type of opportunity sought: I currently do NOT have farmland, but I am looking for land to farm.

Specified interest in farming/ranching/animal-raising: I am interested in farming full-time, as a hobby, or as a part-time job.

Interested in growing/raising: Vegetables, fruit, herbs, poultry/fowl, and goats/sheep.

Interested in these farming/ranching practices: Organic and biodynamic.

Background in farming: I have some farming experience, but am interested in learning more.

Education/Training: Farm/crop management (3 years or less), general farming (3 years or less), and general college degree.

Willing to consider the following types of business arrangements: Buy/sell, crop-share, and/or partnership.

Stated interest in on-site housing: No preference.

Other Information: I am a Certified Master Composter through Bernalillo County Master Composters Association.  My wife is a botanist with a specialty in plant genetics, gender allocation, and reproductive ecology.  I have worked extensively on cross-breeding my own variety of green chile.  I am also very interested in finding new (or sometimes, really old) ways of growing different things and am always willing to experiment with different systems.  I have also worked quite a bit with soilless growing using aeroponics and various deep-water immersion set ups.
I am primarily looking to buy a piece of land, preferably a few acres and a house, where I can start a small family farm and gradually get big enough to farm full-time and sell some of what I produce to feed and support my family.  Barring that, I would like to find some land to use or lease to do the same.  I am open to other ideas, however.
