1/3 Acre + Housing in ABQ North Valley Print E-mail

This is a listing for the Central New Mexico LandLink program. If you are not familiar with the program please visit the LandLink home page for more information.

Ref. #: 120

County: Bernalillo

Vision/Details: This is a small area (about 1/3 acre) but we'd offer this land free for use and we would pay for water and any significant soil modifications.  In exchange, we'd ask for knowledge transer (let us learn from you!) and to be allowed to eat some of the produce (we are a family of 4, so not much).

Land-Use History: Currently unused.  Was a horse corral prior to our ownership.  Prior to that, we don't know.

Soil & Water: Well water. We live in the north valley, so I think if you dig down a bit the soil isn't bad. Unfortunately, though, the landowner before us used the parcel for horses and dumped a bunch of sand.  We've considered having a backhoe come in and take out the top 18 inches and replace with topsoil, but it's an expensive option and we're not sure it's necessary.  One reason we'd love to let someone farm this piece is to give us insights on how best to supplement the soil and nurture it back to health (we would of course pay for any soil amendments).

Desired Farming Practices: Conventional tillage, minimum tillage, no-till, sustainable, organic, integrated pest management, bio-intensive, and/or permaculture.

Housing: We have a small casita that faces the land and could include that in the deal, perhaps in exchange for yard work or other handy help, or perhaps with some payment for the water use.

Acreage: 1/3 acre.
