Looking for Land to Establish a "Food Forest Outdoor Museum" Print E-mail

This is a listing for the Central New Mexico LandLink program. If you are not familiar with the program please visit the LandLink home page for more information.

Reference#: 148

County: Sandoval

Zip code: 87048

Type of opportunity sought: I currently do not have farmland, but I am looking for land to farm.

Specified interest in farming/ranching/animal-raising: I am interested in establishing a "Food Forest Outdoor Museum" that involves school programs, and is open to the public to learn how to create their own backyard “Food Forests”.  The idea is that students and their research will help the urban and rural public to create organic, petroleum free agricultural plantings that are modeled after natural forests and how they work.  Plants that provide the resources to meet many human needs will be emphasized, such as:  food, medicine, shelter, clothing, utensils, soaps, lotions and other cosmetics, lighting, and the use of dyes, waxes and resins.  Youth and others will be guided in understanding and developing skills for jobs in providing local resources for sustainable community transformation.

Interested in growing/raising: Vegetables, fruit, herbs, poultry/fowl, goats/sheep, an orchard, bees, perennial vegetables, possibly one or two cows, and possibly a couple of alpacas.

Interested in these farming/ranching practices: Organic, biodynamic, and/or permaculture.

Background in farming: I grew up working in my family's greenhouse and nursery business, and have gardened organically for many years.  I have taught permaculture programs in schools and managed school gardens and greenhouses.

Training and education: General college degree, as well as standard and advanced Permaculture Design Certificates and a Permaculture Diploma.

Willing to consider the following types of business arrangements: Buy/sell, rent, and/or crop-share. I have one supporting organization, and am looking for more!

Stated interest in on-site housing: No preference.
