This is a listing for the Central New Mexico LandLink program. If you are not familiar with the program please visit the LandLink home page for more information. Reference#: 151 County: Taos Zip code: 87571 Type of opportunity sought: We currently do not have farmland, but we are looking for land to farm. Ideally we would like to be in northern New Mexico, but we are flexible on location, as long as we're in a rural area. Specified interest in farming/ranching/animal-raising: We are interested in farming full-time. Interested in growing/raising: Vegetables, fruit, herbs, vineyard, poultry/fowl, goats/sheep, nuts, bees, medicinals, beneficial natives, etc. Interested in these farming/ranching practices: Organic, biodynamic, and arid/indigenous methodologies. Background in farming: We are experienced farmers. Training and education: Agriculture-related college degree, farm/crop management (3 years or less), general farming (more than 3 years), and general college degree. Willing to consider the following types of business arrangements: Buy/Sell or Lease to Own. Stated interest in on-site housing: No preference. Business Plan: Yes, we have a business plan or a market in mind. Other Information: Farming/gardening and taking care of animals allows us to fully be who we are. We are a recently married couple looking for family homestead to put our roots down. We have researched farm history/theory and have implemented many different techniques/methods including native agriculture and arid farming technologies. We have accomplished many things and know the value of completing a project that we designed, started and stuck out till the end. We have managed a 1 acre orchard for years, a 1 acre flower farm, a 2 acre berry farm and our own extensive gardens/fields in multiple locations. These experiences have given us ample market exposure as well. We have sold at farmer's markets, flea markets, co-ops and groceries, and are ready to make this our full-time commitment and sole source of income. Part of this vision is to be a refuge and sanctuary for all types of wildlife and farm animals as well. Wherever we end up, we hope to protect, restore and expand native plant and animal habitats. Thus, we have been searching for our own place to let this dream unfold, but have been unsuccessful so far. We are looking for at least 5 acres of land to live on and work, as we are tired of expending energy and time on anothers land to just have to walk away from it all at the end of a contract. Of course, we need a steady water source, be it a well, spring, acequia, adequate rain etc, but its not neccessary at the beginning. We are extremely adaptable and open to many different types of terrain and situations. We look forward to working out a creative solution that works for everyone. Don't be shy, contact us and let us know what you are thinking and let's go from there. Listing Date: September 30, 2011 Contact: localfoodnm@mrcog-nm.gov or (505) 724-3619 |
