Reference#: 154

County: Bernalillo

Zip code: 87112

Type of opportunity sought: I currently do not have farmland, but I am looking for land to farm. I am interested in creating a therapy farm (animal raising, gardening, classes, and more).

Specified interest in farming/ranching/animal-raising: I am interested in farming as a hobby, or as a part-time job.

Interested in growing/raising: Vegetables, fruit, herbs, vineyard, poultry/fowl, and goats/sheep.

Interested in these farming/ranching practices: Organic, biodynamic, and/or permaculture.

Background in farming: I have limited farming experience but am interested in learning more.

Training and education: General college degree and urban farming experience.

Willing to consider the following types of business arrangements: Eventually, I would like to own my own property, because I would like to be able to build a residence and other structures. For the time being, however, a partnership or some type of land share would be fine.

Stated interest in on-site housing: No preference.

Business Plan: I need help developing a business plan or finding markets for my products. I do have a basic plan but would love help making it a reality

Other Information: I am always willing to learn something new! I have been learning as much as I can with my small urban farm. I love to spin, knit, garden and keep chickens. However, I want to do more than just have a small urban farm. I have big dreams for my 'real' farm. I am hoping for a good size plot of land. Housing would be wonderful but I am willing to start with just the land and build from there. Once I have the farm, I want to offer classes on sustainable living, crafts, gardening, and much more! I would like to build a community center so that others can hold classes and events as well. From there I want to expand the farm into what I call a 'therapy farm' where children and adults with mental and physical special needs can come and be around animals of all types. It would start small- with small animals and then expand and have equine therapy. I have other plans as well but I will wait and see how the first steps progress. I am looking for anywhere from one acre to 100 -- though approximately 3 acres would suffice for now. I would like to be close to a city so that schools groups and others can visit easily.
