Healthy Land - Healthy Food - Healthy People

The 4th Annual Local Food Festival and Field Day held at the Gutierrez-Hubbell House in the South Valley was a wonderful success. We had a huge turnout...much bigger than last year! The weather was perfect. The vendors and organizations that came out were wonderful. The food demos were educational and drool-worthy. The food trucks were such a hit that most of them sold out. The bands (Mala Maña and Young Edward) played their hearts out. The speakers, book readings and film screenings all deserved the glowing reviews they received. The kids area was bursting with giggling painted faces. And we had a ton of fun putting this event on!!

Celebrating Food from the Ground Up

The Local Food Festival and Field Day, a celebration of food from the ground up, is an annual event highlighting local2010 Food Festival food and agriculture in our region. The festival is organized by the MRCOG Agriculture Collaborative in partnership with a variety of local groups and organizations.

The continued success of this event reflects the ever increasing demand for local agriculture, locally produced foods and gardening related activities. Many festival attendees have stated that they are now more willing to seek out New Mexico food products and to shop at area farmers’ markets. Others have indicated a new interest in growing more food and including more fresh and local foods as a part of their regular diet.

Connecting the public with local growers, producers, and businesses is crucial in sustaining local agriculture. The Local Food Festival and Field Day provides one step in helping to make those connections.

  • Workshops and lectures about canning and other food preservation techniques, gardening/farming, seed saving, curanderismo (folk healing), New Mexico's farming history and culture, and more!
