Valencia County Mobility Plan Print E-mail

Valencia County’s Mobility Plan is a long range transportation plan that looks at all the various transportation issues in Valencia County. It addresses bicycle travel and facilities, pedestrians, equestrians, roadway construction and maintenance, commuter rail, and public transportation such as bus service. The purpose of the Plan is to determine what the County’s current transportation needs are, and, by looking at the County’s growth patterns, to try and determine what the County’s future transportation needs will be. The final version includes a list of these current and future needs as well as a discussion of the County’s financial resources.

The result is a prioritized list of projects that our citizens and elected officials can use in their discussions with State and Federal officials about available funding for local needs.

Updating Plan

(September, 2007) Since the plan was approved in May, 2006, a number of events have occurred. Valencia County forecasts for population and employment have been developed out to the year 2030. The Rancho Cielo development has been annexed by the City of Belen and the developer has completed that master plan. The Peralta/Valencia area has incorporated as the Town of Peralta. In addition, further discussions have identified potential refinements to the plan.

The Valencia County Transportation Steering Committee took these events into consideration and determined that an update to the plan would be appropriate. They requested MRCOG staff to develop an update using the remainder of the funds provided by the NMDOT for the Mobility Plan development.
