The MRCOG Agriculture Collaborative is proud to announce the launch of the Central New Mexico LandLink Initiative, an effort to connect farmers to agricultural lands.
What is the Central New Mexico LandLink Initiative?
Are you interested in utilizing the services of the Central New Mexico LandLink Initiative?
Please take a moment to fill out one of the following online forms. Your information will remain private.
The goal of the Central New Mexico LandLink Initiative is to “link” beginning farmers and ranchers to land, resources, and educational opportunities by providing:
- A landowner to farmer/rancher matching service;
- A referral network of local experts;
- Mentorship opportunities; and
- Workshops designed to build a career path for success.
Additionally, the LandLink Initiative will "link" agricultural landowners and existing farm and ranch operators with the next generation of farm and ranch land stewards, business partners and interns. The program also will help to facilitate farm and ranch transition to the next generation through tenure arrangements, sales and/or lease agreements.
Why do we need a LandLink program?
Without a doubt there is a growing market for local food in our state; however, New Mexico faces many challenges in meeting this demand — including an aging farmer and rancher population, loss of agricultural land, and soaring land values. Now is the time to create a plan for the future of agriculture in our region.
There are close to 30 established “landlinking” programs across the country. All have similar goals but are customized to meet localized needs. The MRCOG’s Agriculture Collaborative is in an ideal position to facilitate a landlink for this region by building upon the existing program capacities and continuing to rely on friends within the local agricultural community (that’s you!).
How can I be involved, or how can this program help me?
We are asking agricultural landowners, existing agricultural operators, and new and beginning farmers and ranchers who are interested in utilizing the Central New Mexico LandLink to complete a simple online form (see links in box above). It is our goal to get the next generation of farmers and ranchers onto the land with the support they need to succeed! Support us by getting the word out about the LandLink Initiative. We encourage your comments and feedback.
