lawrence.jpgThe Mid-Region Council of Governments is pleased to announce the launch of our new website, in an effort to engage and educate the public on the important issues that face our growing region.  By 2020, the region’s population is expected to top 1 million.

As the population and economic engine of the state, New Mexico's mid-region faces some critical future planning decisions. How will we grow? What will our transportation look like? How will we deal with dwindling farmland and scare water resources?

We hope that our new website engages citizens, member agencies, and decision-makers in our region on the critical role we play together in shaping our future. We particularly wish to encourage citizen involvement-- though education and participation in our public processes.

Our newly developed site (at www.mrcog-nm.gov) contains information on a variety of topics, including: profiles of cities and counties within the region; regional forecasting and census data for planners; up-to-date news and events; information on regional bus service; metropolitan and rural transportation planning; resources for local farmers and growers; information for job seekers and employers; local land-use plans; a directory of economic development services; and much more.

The site's navigation and content were redesigned to be more intuitive and informative from the citizen's perspective.  More images were added, a search engine provides added functionality, and interactive maps are utilized.  The site provides a foundation for adding additional future interactivity, such as blogs, video, webfeeds, and e-mail newsletters.

The database-driven site utilizes open-source content management software. Nearly all of the photography was taken in-house or by local photographers.

Please enjoy, and we appreciate your feedback.
