Regional Planning Helps Preserve Community Character (Cuba, New Mexico)
The staff of the MRCOG provides professional planning assistance and technical services to local governments, basically as an extension of local government staff. The MRCOG also maintains an active role in education and training programs for local governments. An important responsibility of the MRCOG is to provide a central forum for governments to address planning and development issues of local and regional concern. The study includes not only the military base, but also the municipal airport, the Albuquerque International Sunport, in addition to other defense industries on base, such as Sandia National Laboratories and the Albuquerque Office of the Department of Energy. The study area is broad, which is important considering the large number of stakeholders that are near-by, affiliated with, or impacted by the base.
