The 1960's saw the first major subdivision of lands in this area. The small tracts, generally less than one acre, were especially attractive to people who worked in the Albuquerque area but desired a semi-rural home environment. Bosque Farms was incorporated in 1974 with a population of about 2,500. The community has continued to grow, but has maintained a rural atmosphere. There are about 900 persons employed in or near Bosque Farms. About 30 percent of the jobs are in the retail sector. The Services sector accounts for about 20 percent of the total jobs. Commercial activity is concentrated along NM 47. In 1999, the average weekday traffic on NM 47 through the Village averaged 26,200 vehicles. The largest employer in or near the Village is the Los Lunas Public School District.
