Site Promotes New Generation of Farmers Print E-mail

Here in New Mexico the average farm operator is 57* years old. When these farmers retire, hopefully a younger generation of farmers and ranchers will take over. Unfortunately, farming is not often viewed as a viable career option by today's youth.

One website is trying to get young farmers on the map (literally): Serve your Country Food.

The website's main feature is a map, where young farmers can list information about themselves and their farm.

From the website:

"This map is a way for us to feel our own numbers, and connect with nearby farmers as well as nearby markets/media.  (The site) allows young farmers to fill out relevant details about their farming operation, their history of farming, (and) their future farming vision. It's a chance for us to raise our voices on behalf of American agriculture."

It is great to see this website for young farmers by young farmers even though the website's long manifesto may not be something everyone would agree with.

Are you part of the younger generation of farmers? Register your farm today and give a face to young New Mexican farmers.
