Workshop: Managing pests in hoop houses & similar protected cropping systems Print E-mail

When: Wednesday 3/30/11

Time: 1:30-4:00pm

Location: East Mountain Organics, 84 Charlotte Rd., Tijeras, NM. 87059

Season-extension techniques not only extend the season for crops, but for pests, too. Even experienced growers can experience difficulties when facing the extra challenges involved in managing pests in hoop houses and similar environments.
On the plus side, though, hoop houses offer an opportunity to use biological control – releasing commercially reared predators and parasites to control the pests. However, using beneficial insects in this way requires good knowledge of the pests, the appropriate natural enemies to choose, and how to use them in the most effective way.

New Mexico State University is holding a free workshop kindly hosted by East Mountain Organics, to address all of these issues. Participants will have the opportunity to see samples of different beneficials and how to use them.

For further details and to reserve a place on this free course, please contact Dr. Tess Grasswitz on (505) 865-7340.
