Bioneers is Looking For a Development Intern Print E-mail

Development Intern Description

Behind every great organization is a fundraising team. In today’s world, having a background in fundraising not only makes you a more valuable team member within an organization, but an indispensible part of the larger movement for environment and justice. Bioneers is a non-profit that, for the past 22 years, has provided a forum and social hub for education about solutions that are inspiring a shift to live on Earth in ways that honor the web of life, each other and future generations.

Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life. Bioneers’ development team is responsible for raising $3 million annually. Funds are raised from individuals, private foundations and sustainable businesses through direct mail, online outreach, special events, proposal and report writing, as well as face-to-face asks. Our team is seeking a person passionate about and committed to people and planet for a rich and rewarding internship in fundraising. This is a great résumé enhancer for anyone interested in environmental and social justice work.

Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

• Gain a strong understanding of the foundations of fundraising at Bioneers (learn the “why” of what we do and not just the “how”) and the ways in which we cultivate long-term relationships with our donors

• Gift tracking through Salesforce, to include data entry and learning best practices for tracking gifts in an effort to most effectively raise funds from donors throughout the year, a highly sought-after skill and great résumé builder

• Donor gift acknowledgment, to include paper, emails and phone calls

• Support development planning and logistics for Bioneers’ annual conference, house parties and other special events

• Assist with Foundation and Major Donor research in support of our six program areas

• Attend tabling/networking events as a representative of Bioneers

• Planned giving prospect research & follow-up mailing

• Attend inter-departmental meetings as needed

• General administrative duties that support the Development Department

Qualifications:

• Strong interest in starting a career in development and/or a genuine interest in learning fundraising skills to support other work in the nonprofit field

• Computer and internet research skills (including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite)

• Detail oriented, organized and ability to multi-task

• Good phone manner

• Great writing skills a plus

• Creative, flexible, open-minded, and excited about environment and social justice

• Schedule is flexible, but a commitment of at least 15 hours per week is desired for the full 4 month internship

• Only seeking serious candidates sincerely interested in gaining a deeper understanding of fundraising to support meaningful change work in the non-profit world

• Sense of humor a definite must!

This is a fall internship, beginning mid-August and ending mid-December. Begin and end dates are flexible, but the internship is a 4 month commitment.

Stipend available for the duration of the internship.
