The New Mexico Program Assistant supports the NM Administrative Program Coordinator and the NM Area Program Director.  Duties include: database maintenance, grant management, budget support, clerical support, conducting farm trainings using a hands-on, popular education model, and coordinating farm training. The New Mexico Area Program Assistant works under the supervision of the NM Area Director and the NM Admin Program Coordinator, and the guidance of the Regional Executive and New Mexico Area Committees.

Qualifications:

Experience:

   Experience in small agricultural enterprise, community-supported agriculture or related community economic development.
   Experience with budget management, grant management, evaluation process, data collection, writing reports, and providing program support.
   Experience training using hands-on, popular education model.



Other Required Skills and Abilities:

   Ability to physically lift 40 lbs. Job is physically demanding work.
   Ability to work with people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds and political viewpoints.
   Ability to develop and implement community-oriented programs.
   Ability and willingness to handle clerical work and correspondence.
   Computer literacy, which includes the ability to use word processing, database, Excel spreadsheet and publishing programs, as well as proficiency with the Internet.
   Ability to do competent and accurate program related research.
   Ability to develop contacts for program work and ability to engage and maintain working relationships with a wide variety of peace, justice and community organizations.
   Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
   Excellent time management skills.
   Ability to work independently with little supervision.
   Experience with coordinating events and volunteers.
   Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
   Must have reliable transportation. This job requires state wide travel.
   

Compensation:  Salary Range $18,468 - $23,084, salary depending on experience and contingent upon grant funding, potential for full time employment in 2012.  Comprehensive medical and hospitalization plan; term life, accident and salary continuation insurances, defined benefit pension plan, plus fringe benefits; participation in unemployment and worker’s compensation and social security.  This is an exempt position.
