Below are several grants that you might consider applying for to support your school garden.


Whole Foods

Has a new school garden grant program. Applications are on-line and you can apply NOW through December 31st 2011. Word on the street is that 12 school garden grants will be distributed across NM. Also when you go to shop at Whole Foods you can choose to donate $1 or $5 to the school garden grant fund when you check out at the register. Youth Garden Grants Program

The National Gardening Association and Home Depot are partnering to award grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered garden programs. Priority to receive grants will be given to programs that emphasize at least one of the following elements: an educational focus or curricular integration, nutrition or plant-to-food connections, environmental education, entrepreneurship, social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, community support, or service-learning. U.S. schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and intergenerational groups with programs that include at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years are eligible.  (www.kidsgardening.org) Deadline: November 28, 2011

New Mexico Centennial Gardens NEW!!

November 2, 2011  SANTA FE, NM—  The New Mexico Centennial is pleased to announce a call for proposals for the Centennial Gardens Program.  Thanks to the generosity of the Coca-Cola Foundation, grants will be available to support school and community garden projects in New Mexico in 2012.  Grants will be available via the NM Centennial Foundation at levels of $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000. To be eligible for a Centennial Garden grant, applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or nonprofit K-12 school that is developing or currently maintaining a garden project that will help communities engage with fresh fruits and vegetables.  Garden projects may be at any stage of development; planning, construction or operation.  In selecting grant recipients, priority will be given to both limited-resource communities and to projects that demonstrate strong collaborations and community support.  Relationships with food banks or other outlets to distribute food to New Mexicans in need are a plus. 1) Horizon Campaign funds $1,500-5,000 for literacy, fine arts, science or MS after-school programs. www.aps.edu/education-foundation/horizon-campaign (click on “Apply for the Horizon Awards”). Apply anytime.
2) Seeds of Learning grant through Join-a-School, offers a $350 grant each month. www.aps.edu/join-a-school/grant-programs (There are 4, including the monthly “Seeds of Learning” and 2 different grants to support field trips!)
