Mid-Region Travel Survey

Travel Data Crucial to Transportation Planning

The Mid-Region Travel Survey was conducted in fall 2013 and winter 2014 with the purpose of updating the MRCOG travel demand model, but also to shed light on changing traveler behavior patterns.

The survey asked residents across Sandoval, Bernalillo, and Valencia Counties, along with households located in Native American communities, to record all trips made during one day one day of travel. The survey findings help to understand how travel patterns vary based on place of residence, household size, vehicle ownership rates, income, age, and other variables. Information on the modes that people take and the distances they travel for different activities were also collected.

Altogether, more than 5,200 people from almost 2,500 households participated.
