Congestion Management Process Print E-mail
The Congestion Management Process is a federally mandated process that helps planners identify congested travel corridors and recommends strategies to increase transportation efficiency and provide additional options for the travelling public.

Data is gathered on a network of corridors in the Albuquerque Metro Planning Area. This data helps identify the sources and types of congestion experienced, as well as the locations which experience the greatest travel delays in the region. Benefits of this program may include improved travel times for commuters, improved incident management, enhanced public safety and security, reduced traveler delays, improved traveler information, and in general, a more efficient transportation system.

Data from this program can be found in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

Project Prioritization Process

The Project Prioritization Process is an evaluation tool that is applied to transportation projects proposed for inclusion in the TIP. The Project Prioritization Process contains a series of quantitative evaluation criteria which are designed to measure the extent to which an individual project addresses the transportation needs of the region. This technical assessment provides baseline information upon which sound transportation planning decisions can be made. The Guidebook provides a detailed summary of the process and an explanation of the evaluation criteria and project scoring methodology.

Corridor Profiles

A Profile in Congestion: The 30 Most Congested Corridors in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Planning Area contains one-page profiles of each corridor, highlighting the most congested segments. The report will be updated annually as new data is collected and serves as a companion document for the annual Congestion Management Process (CMP) Corridor Rankings.

CMP Review

Recently MRCOG began producing CMP Review newsletters to better document the progress of the CMP committee and the Congestion Management Process as a whole by providing a summary of agenda items, considerations, decisions, and actions taken and completed. You may view electronic versions of the newsletter at the links below.
