The New Mexico Department of Transportation approved the 2040 Statewide Long Range Multimodal Transportation Plan (SLRP) or New Mexico Transportation Plan (NMTP) in the fall of 2015. This plan is meant to identify New Mexico’s transportation needs and how the transportation system can support the well-being of the State’s residents and visitors. Additionally, it is meant to ensure that transportation projects, programs and policies are rational, fiscally responsible, environmentally sustainable and accountable to taxpayers and system users.

In conjunction with the development of the SLRP / NMTP, MRRTPO updated Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP is the transportation plan for Torrance, southern Santa Fe and northwest Sandoval Counties. MRRTPO convened subject matter experts from transportation, economic development, health and other fields from throughout the region to help inform and develop the Regional Transportation Plan. The plan was developed throughout 2014 and approved by the Mid-Region Rural Transportation Planning Organization (MRRTPO) Committee in August 2015.
