Job Opening: Senior Systems Administrator

Job Opportunity SmallThe Rio Metro Regional Transit District (RMRTD) / Mid-Region Council of Governments (MRCOG) seeks professional to support IT operation for the New Mexico Rail Runner Express (NMRX) Commuter Rail Operations and Rio Metro Bus Operations including the, the transit dispatch systems, rail dispatch systems, NMRX on board public facing WI-FI and agency VPN’s, NMRX station IT electronics (voice, camera, emergency call button, variable message signs, station network appliance, etc.), NMRX onboard video display systems and content management systems, Rio Metro Bus IT (dispatch tablets, AVL systems, 2-way voice radios, etc.), computer systems, and MS Windows servers.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to installation, maintenance and configuration of IP network equipment (routers, switches, telephones, firewalls), wireless radios - including WiMAX and LTE, MS Windows computers, servers, video surveillance and display systems. This position requires field work to be performed, troubleshooting and working with IT support contractors and managing IT support contracts. This position will be responsible for all routine and emergency maintenance on all RMRTD systems.

Essential Functions include callback at any hour of the day on weekends and holidays for system diagnostics and restoration. Light truck operation on and off road is necessary, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Working from a bucket truck and other structures at heights in excess of 20 ft. Driving agency provided vehicle distances (up to 200 miles per day) is necessary. Lifting in excess of 50 pounds, standing and walking for extended periods of time is required. Working in odd physical postures may be necessary when installing or repairing equipment in vehicles and on remote site installations. Managing Contractors and working in partnership with internal and external support personnel is required. Ability to establish constructive positive relationships (with internal and external partners) and work in a team environment is necessary.  

Qualifications

Qualifications include: Associate's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, MIS, or related field and eight (8) years of hands-on technical experience in support of a production local area network (LAN), including MS Active Directory, and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure support in an MS Windows (7/8/10) PC and Windows Server environment. RMRTD/MRCOG will consider additional years of experience toward the required education. Preferred additional qualifications include Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). Eight (8) years of hands-on technical experience in support of a production local area network (LAN), including MS Active Directory, and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure support in an MS Windows (7/8/10) PC and Windows Server environment. Experience with wireless networks and security. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, candidate will be subject to background security check and must possess a valid NM Driver’s license and clean driving record.
