by Jessica Rowland, Lecturer & Education Support Coordinator

The UNM Sustainability Studies Program and La Montanita Food Co-op are collaborating with Beyond Pesticides, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, to organize and facilitate the 31st National Pesticide Forum:  Sustainable Families, Farms and Food: Resilient Communities through Organic Practices. The conference will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 5th and 6th on the UNM Main Campus in Albuquerque.

The forum brings together top national scientists and community leaders to share information, craft solutions, and catalyze networks to manifest change. The 2013 conference will focus on building resilience in our food system and bringing ecosystems back to balance, and will incorporate regional issues such as water and food sovereignty in the Southwest.

Conference activities include a field trip, entertainment, and various panels of national and local speakers. Workshops will span topics such as pesticides and health, GE foods, pollinators, water, land management, biodiversity, food security and resilience.
The organic food and beverages provided to all conference attendees will include:
