Job Seekers Learn How to Write an Effective and Professional Resume

The Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico oversees four one-stop locations.  Staff can assist in providing quality resources for people exploring career opportunities, and also support local job providers.  Priorty industries in the region include healthcare, construction, and green energy.

The Workforce Connection of Central New Mexico also promotes its services to neighborhood organizations, getting them involved in job fairs. For example, TriCore Reference Laboratories offered a Phlebotomy Apprenticeship Program, which resulted in a partnership with Albuquerque Job Corps, a program that supplied a majority of Phlebotomy Apprentices.  Then, UNM's Department of Continuing Education implemented the necessary curriculum.

The Mid Region Council of Governments is the administrative entity and fiscal agent for the New Mexico Workforce Connection, overseeing services in Bernalillo, Torrance, Sandoval and Valencia Counties. The program receives federal funding under the Workforce Investment Act.

WIOA & Four Year Local Plan

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law on July 22, 2014, and became effective July 1, 2015. WIOA supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and amends the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, the Wagner-Peyser Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. WIOA is designed to help both jobseekers and businesses: WIOA addresses the needs of jobseekers through establishing a workforce system that helps them access employment, education, training and support services to succeed in the labor market; WIOA addresses businesses’ needs by matching them to the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy.

The Central Region’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity (WIOA) Act Four Year Plan Local Plan, Program Years 2016 – 2020 received final approval from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions on April 28, 2017, and by the Central Region’s Workforce Development Board on May 15, 2017, for execution of workforce development activities under the WIOA of 2014. The approved plan is now available by download (below) and/or by contacting the Mid-Region Council of Governments, 809 Copper Ave. NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102, during normal business hours.
