The Regional Transportation Safety Action Plan (RTSAP) 2024 first draft is now out for public review. New Mexico remains the worst state for fatalities according to Dangerous by Design (2022) report. The RTSAP reveals many concerning trends witnessed over a 5-year period from 2017 through 2021. While the crash data is a little behind, it’s a strong set of data that highlights significant roadway safety concerns for the region.
One of the most important aspects of the RTSAP is that helps agencies obtain grant funds through Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A). This is especially important for smaller rural and tribal agencies which don’t have the staff or time to go develop their own safety plans.
Please review this draft and submit feedback to project lead Julian Padilla (jpadilla@mrcog-nm.gov) by April 30, 2024.
