About

Formed in February 22, 2023, the Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative (MRGHC) is a shared effort between the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to explore solutions for affordable housing  in Central New Mexico.

The MRGHC was established by the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County and approved by the Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration to engage in long-range planning for the development and redevelopment of safe, sanitary, and affordable housing. It is comprised of five Commissioners appointed by the City and County.

Mission

The overall mission of MRGHC is to ensure that more affordable housing units are developed and located within the City of Albuquerque and unincorporated parts of Bernalillo County. The Commission will be responsible for oversight of the Executive Director of the MRGHC and ensuring that they are furthering the MRGHC’s mission and purpose.

Under the agreement, the City and County will exercise common powers over the Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative, a joint effort to address the shortage of safe, affordable, and sanitary housing. The Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative will be made up of five (5) members chosen by the City and the County and will operate while the City and County housing authorities continue to independently perform their administrative duties. The purpose of the Middle Rio Grande Housing Collaborative is to finance and prioritize affordable housing through long-range planning for the development and redevelopment of property by studying and reporting on current affordable housing, services, and gaps in services.
